For the past six months I’ve been working on this book with Nick Abadzis, of Laika fame. Nick wrote it, I am illustrating it, and Laurel Lynn Leake is doing the color. It’s been officially announced today and I’m so very very very excited to share. There is an article up on Comics Alliance that says it all a lot better than I can. And with oodles of concept art.
On white paper, a first time for everything, and without marker. The second status isn’t by choosing, currently sans studio, and separated from markers. Miss each one terribly, their little faces, their quirky little personalities, their dramas.
Several lined up waiting to be colored. More soon.
So The Disappearance has arrived on the internet! Check it out in the summer edition of Pinball Magazine, a digital magazine featuring fiction, non-fiction, comics and art. Also featuring writers: Kate Folk, JoeAnn Hart, Kirby Johnson, Michael Ownbey, Gregory Wolos, and artist Fabio Sassi. Hurray!
This digital edition is slightly different that the non-linear print edition, with extra scenes, and a mysterious ending!
If you missed it at MeCAF, don’t fret, I’ve still got some copies. Now up on my Etsy Shop.
Here is the cover I did this past weekend for the Drabblecast, Episode 299: The Revelation of Morgan Stern, by Christie Yant. The story is told as a letter, written by the hand of a woman who has survived an apocalypse of biblical proportions and is crossing the country in search of an old lover. The artwork is my interpretation of events just preceding the time of the story and in researching imagery for the piece I rediscovered The Fall of the Rebel Angels by Pieter Bruegel which is amazing (!), and had an obvious influence.
This is pen and ink and colored digitally. And if you are interested here is the art pre-cover design elements, in a higher resolution.
