So I was recently hired to do this illuminated poem as a Christmas present. Definitely a first for me and a pretty fun process to boot. I didn’t pull much imagery from the actual text for this and instead opted for a more organic and ornamental approach. This is also all done by painting with photoshop. Now I have colorized plenty of images with photoshop before but this is the first time that I’ve gone into it with the goal of making something that really looked likes it’s painted, so I took my time and did a lot of digging for help on the interenet.
I came across a lot of really amazing techniques for simulating paint that frankly blew me away. You can really lay down color and push it around which feels a lot like oil paint (look mom, no mess)! Over the years I’ve seen some really highly detailed stuff done in programs like Corel Paint, but wasn’t really aware of just what can be done in photoshop.Anyway, this is a detail, so you can get a sense of it.

Hope I don’t sound like too much of a salesman, I’m just geeking out on this stuff at the moment, it’s just nice to be able to accomplish this kind of look.
