In June of 2007 myself along with Jake Lee-High, Sean O’Brien, and Fred Wolflink created life in the Axiom Gallery. Well not exactly life, but pretty damn close. It was like some bloated single celled version of Frankenstein’s Monster, feeding off the energy of the modern world. Instead of a bolt of lightning we used the regular T trains that ran under the gallery to animate it. Each time the trains rumbled by the organism quivered with activity. Swelling turgid mylar sacs, flashing monitors under a mas of giant bubble wrap, and bouncing fleshy animations against the shimmering walls. Think warped science museum with a DIY vibe.
Anyway, a video of it is being shown at Axiom as part of the “Riders on a Train” show curated by Nancy Davies. You should go there and check it out, along with a lot of other fabulous work, or you can watch this video, or even better you can do BOTH! The show is up until December 19th.
